This is the Larousse definition of the title Ghjuvan Iviu Torre openly and proudly claims. "I always wanted to be a farmer and live in the countryside. At the age of 17, I already had my own small farm", recounts this combative farmer, who had to impose his choices, firstly on his family, who doubted his professional orientation, and then on his fellow farmers, who at the time saw this early environmentalist as an "impediment to going round in circles".
Nearly forty years on, time seems to have proved Ghjuvan Iviu doubly right: he still lives off his land, and his ecological concerns are now widely shared. But for Ghjuvan Iviu, the fight goes on and he wants to pass on his passion for the land to new generations. His farm is a real place for sharing and meeting, where people come to listen to music, attend a conference, buy leather goods and organic vegetables!
His new challenge: to create the first eco-camping site in Corsica. There's no doubt that in twenty years' time, others will have seen the light of day!
