A small village nestled on a hillside at an altitude of 700 m, Salice dominates the Cruzzini valley, between Rosazia and Azzana.

U Salge, the name of the village in Corsican, means "the willow". This tree, of which the presence of a particularly robust specimen, is present mainly in edges of river.
In the Middle Ages, Salice was the capital of the Cruzzini region. This small mountain village dominates the Cruzzini valley.
Stretched out and criss-crossed by strette (streets in Corsican), Salice was probably founded in the 18th century. It is marked by the testimony of the successive settlements that moved in the course of the invasions to settle definitively in its present location, towards the end of the 16th century.
The inhabitants, who numbered close to a thousand at the end of the 19th century, were an agropastoral community renowned for its strong cohesion with its neighbours in other valleys and its ability to resist the invaders.
Today, the remains of this past life can be found in three oil mills, half a dozen chestnut flour mills and about thirty bread ovens.
Salice, which has 1,650 hectares of woodland in its municipal area, is criss-crossed by numerous paths, including the paved mule track leading to San Giovanni Battista.

For the record:
Salice is one of the last villages in Corsica that still practises the mazzeri fires on the night of 31 July to 1 August.
The tradition is that on this night, all the inhabitants of the village light fires in front of their houses and at the crossroads of the paths to repel the mazzeri and prevent them from circulating. The children then go through the village with pots and pans to make noise and drive them away for good... until next year!
